earth.
its so ironic that everyone's so resigned to a fate that there is nothing we can do about the failing state of our planet, but yet everyone's so afraid.
for centuries, we've held our world at gunpoint, robbing it of whatever resources it has. we've debated about the sustainability of resources and discussed the possible outcomes if those sources ran out. but yet we still continue to suck the earth dry.
why?
its the selfish nature of man that prevents it from doing this.
because man, or at least the individual person with a common thought has used its need to survive or at least continue ordinary life as a reason to say:
"well, hey, i've got to drive cars, i've got to work appliances. as much as i want to change the environmental landscape of the world, i've still got to live this way, and if doing that damage is part of the compromise, then so be it. whats one person doing some damage going to change?"
wrong.
problem is that everyone's about as selfish as you, and if EVERYONE thinks the way you do, then no one's ever going to stop this vicious cycle of environmental conflagration. we just dont see it because the bigger picture usually means in the millions. but if those millions are all
ok so now you say that:
"oh, we've got new GREEN TECHNOLOGY, and with this we can cut down the environmental impact of ourselves, we can minimalise our own carbon footprint."
all very nice to the ear, but one big problem. green technology comes with a price, unfortunately. and so here trots along yet another sickeningly destructive flaw of the human:
Greed
greed is truly the bane of humanity. selfish greed has sunk its way deep into our inner being until we don't see that we're being overcome by it.
ask yourself this: if you had to choose between a $25000 normal car, and a $50000 Green car, which would you choose, in all honesty. i don't even need to guess an answer, and my guess would probably be right.
we are all too caught up in saving all the money we have for ourselves and not considering the greater good for the world that we live in.
our last fatal blow is that of:
procrastination
the "i will"s, the "soon"s and "later"s are the problem why global change is taking so darned long. everyone's thinking that tomorrow's a good day to start cutting down on electricity wastage, cutting down on carbon emission, and using less environmentally unfriendly products. its all good. but the problem is that as humans go,
tomorrow never, ever comes
you know, its so sad that while we are holding the world at ransom at gunpoint, we feel in control, and in power. but what we dont realise, is that the gun we're holding is going to backfire. and in the end, the only victim of this equation is
us
we dont see the dire nature of the situation only because the effects are all long term and probably won't affect us in our lifetime (or so we think). but look at the environmental catastrophies that have been happening around us. Nature is taking pot shots at us, and trying to warn us that if we don't do something to change the way we let our human nature dictate the way we live and the way we carry out decisions, we're going to be the ones who will pay the ultimate price.
as a friend once told me,
Humans are taking a crap in their own backyard. but sooner or later, they're going to be eating and drinking their own poo.
