the countdown begins.

a marathon is the true test of a person, a measure of a person. it strips a person down to his essentials, and puts both mind and body through torture to catch a glimpse of what the person is really made of.

it is both an intrinsically and extrinsically satisfying achievement, that reaffirms, empowers, and can change a life forever. like lance armstrong and the tour de france, the marathon is that benchmark that fate does not always have a last say.

what makes the marathon so special is that over that 42.195km that separates a person and the achievement, is nothing but bare road, a pair of shoes, a runner and lots of water. its nothing but only the necessities.

everyone thinks that endurance sports is all about the fitness etc. its true to a certain extent, but the thing that makes out fighters from the rest, is the mental capability. the ability to subdue your subconscious screaming to stop the self-torture, the ability to render any pain bearable is the edge that the person has over the next.

but personally, after about 4 years of running, i must admit that the most important thing in running a good race, is to find your passion. to find the fire for going the distance within you, and setting it alight. because with passion, comes mental strength, and with mental strength will come physical capability.

"a life without passion is no life at all. it is equal to death."
